ok, so my boyfriend has a Dell laptop that requires a wireless card to be able to get internet. last night, I accidentally stepped on the part of the card that was sticking out of the side of the laptop (i know...graceful.) and i want to replace it.
The only thing i know about it is that it's a linksys card. i would just ask him what kind it is but if i did that, he wouldn't let me replace it so all that to ask:
what am i looking for?
thanks y'all
Hmmm well i always got belkin or netgear cards so im sorry but i don't kno any model numbers, but here are some guidelines:
Mkae sure it supports 802.11b/g, most cards do, its just if you get a used card it might only support b, meaning that if his network is wireless g, things would be a lil bit slower for him.
From the sounds of it, this is a pcmcia card, this seems dumb, but make sure it is PCMCIA and not pci, as a pci card will only fit a desktop.
In the way of price... well i wouldn't pay more than 20 pounds in the uk if it helps.
BEN.
Yeap, get a 800.11G card, make sure it's a laptop card, obviously, I'd expect to be between $30 and $40 max for one. You can even check the dell web site to see if you can get the card from them but it's probably cheaper to get it from www.buy.com (my fav site) or Circuit City. Those cards are pretty standard and it doesn't really matter that much who makes them. I use NetGear and have no complaints.
cheers
